Most people now a days have a smart phone. This means that either your phone is equipped with 4G or 5G capabilities. It’s great that technology keeps advancing but with advancements there are bound to have flaws with them. We all live with the glitches in our phones but there are some that many don’t know about. Unfortunately, there are some big issues that have to do with security when it comes to your phones 4G and 5G capabilities. 4 Justice wants to help everyone be aware of what could happen to your phone while they are in the process of fixing it.
There is a glitch that could be used to intercept phone calls, tract your location, and much more. This can be very scary when you think about your privacy. They have even named the attack that can cause this flaw to happen, it’s called ToRPEDO. It is short for Tracking via Paging mEssage DistributiOn. It is a very loaded term and there are a lot of intricacies involved with this type of attack. How it happens is when your phone is on low power mode it becomes idle. Your phones paging protocol balancing between your device’s energy consumption and the delivering services such as texts and phone calls.
However, when there is several phone calls made in a short amount of time, they are able to conclude that the phone is present in a certain geographical cell. This means they can track where you are at all times if they have a “sniffer” in the area. So now that they have your number, know where you’re at, they are then able to take an additional step when you have Twitter push notification turned on. When a tweet is made mentioning the victim’s Twitter this then triggers paging. From here they can build a personal profile of the victim because they have then masterfully found out what you look like, what your name is, and any other information you allow to be on Twitter.
It is scary to know that in as little as 10 calls, while your phone is in low power mode they can find out where you are, who you are, how old you are, and what you look like. That opens you up to a whole other type of attack. Not to mention that in as little as 13 hours they also know your IMSI number associated with your phone. To take things a step further they can send you blank messages and false amber alerts or even make it so that you can’t receive your text messages.
Your security and privacy are very important. Being a victim of this kind of attack or any other kind of attack is serious. It is worth investigating. 4 Justice can perform many investigations that can help you personally or on a business level.
